The Eyup Mosque is the most sacred Muslim site in Istanbul. One can see just married couples in their wedding dresses, circumcision boys just like little princes and in general devout Muslims.

The mosque is a nice example of early 19th century Ottoman mosques. It was rebuilt after the earthquake in the place of 15th century mosque.

There is a much more interesting structure in the next door: The tomb of Eyup who was the standard-bearer of Prophet Muhammed. According to Muslim tradition, he came to join to the siege of Constantinople just after the death of Muhammed in 7th century and died during the unsuccessful siege. The site is where he was buried according to Muslim tradition.

Eyup is the best place to see devout Muslim crowds praying inside and outside of the tomb.
