Suleyman Mosque

The Suleyman Mosque is the best work of Sinan in Istanbul. Sinan is the best Ottoman   architect ever. Sinan called it his masonry work. His master masonry work is in Edirne, the earlier capital of the Ottomans. The Suleyman Mosque was founded in 16th century in the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, the golden age of the Ottoman Empire.

The mosque is in the heart of a complex with medreses (theological schools), a Turkish bath, an imaret (soup kitchen for the poor), a medical school and a hospital, a caravanserai (inn for travelers and merchants), tombs of Sultan Suleyman and his ill willed wife Hurrem. Even the architect Sinan himself found a little corner for his last sleep.
